Culture Mix

Hey everyone! How are you doing? This has been a very exciting week and weekend for me! Somehow, I feel like I have traveled to many places without moving from Manhattan. I've always said how much I love living here because of the diversity and the opportunity it gives me to experience different cultures, but now I've decided to prove my point. Here's what happened this week.

Before starting the week, some of my friends and I attended an event in a nice place at the Meatpacking District. We got there earlier, so we decided to wait for it in an Irish bar. As you can see in the picture, it is already screaming for Saint Patrick's Day to arrive!

The event took place at a Brazilian club, and of course, the theme was Brazil. I'm sure many of you have already heard "Ai si eu te pego" by Michel Teló. Well, we sure did at that party! Brazilian music is so much fun! However, I must confess we didn't last too long, plus we all had to work on Monday morning and I need my sleeping hours to face that day of the week. Anyways, it was a very cool night and even though it doesn't compare to visiting the country, it was a nice taste of Brazil!

Once the week was coming closer to an end, on Thursday night after work, one of my friends took us to a great Chinese restaurant where we had a great gourmet experience. I'm sorry that I can't remember the name of that, but let me explain. They brought a lot of raw stuff to the table (there were vegetables, meat, fish, seafood, tofu, mushrooms... and the list goes on), and also they brought a stove with two different kinds of broth. The fun thing is that you take whatever you want (with that thing you can see in the picture) and cook it in whatever broth you like. Everything was so fresh and delicious! Must thank J.C and Leo for being our mentors during the dinner! Great time tasting China.

Friday morning arrives. That's my long day at work. One of the things I like the most about my job is that I get to work with people from everywhere around the world! As an example, here's how some of my colleagues write my name in their native languages:

To be honest, I am learning so much about countries that I didn't know a lot about before I came here. I think it's really enriching to be able to have such conversation with people coming from literally the other extremes of this planet.

Finally Friday night arrived! After such a long week, it was time to have some fun. Thanks to my friend Wissem, who organized the whole thing, we had a lot of fun "in Turkey"! I have talked about this place before, we went to Babylon (you can check it out here: link.) It's a hookah pipe lounge and we always have a great time there. It reminds me a lot of Turkey, where I have been several times before. This time we could even see a belly dancing show! They play all kinds of music (mainly mainstream), but everything is mixed with that Arabic base that makes you want to dance all the time, one extra point for the DJ!

As you may notice from the pictures (apart from how cool my friends are), not only the places I've been have to do with other cultures, but also my friends come from everywhere. In the end, it's all about who you are with rather than where. Who would have told me a few years ago that I would be experiencing so many countries within a week and without moving from one city! Well, now the weekend is over and it's time to get some energy for another Monday. At least I'll go to sleep very happy having had such a great week! I hope yours was good too and I wish you a nice week as well. See you soon!
