First of all, I would like to say THANK YOU to everyone that was part of the experience, my colleagues and students. Working there has been a tremendous learning experience for me, and it helped me develop many skills.
I also want to thank all of them for a very sweet last day. I went up to the office to find balloons, baked brownie cupcakes (that were amazing!) and kind words. I will miss all of them!
I would also like to mention that the ASC (Academic Support Center) does a great job at Berkeley. They support the students 100% and they provide academic tools for all types of students. The peer tutors, like myself, undergo several trainings and go through evaluations every quarter.
This job has been very rewarding. I have worked closely with students that were having trouble with certain subjects, and the best part was seeing them coming back after the quarter was over to tell us they did well and that we were helpful. That's a great feeling, and fortunately it has happened many times.
In these two years I have also taken part in other projects related to what I want to do with my career, like creating promotional material or contributing in the marketing campaigns of the center. It's a great on-campus job option to grow and they do let you apply the skills you have and go "out of the box" of what a peer tutor is supposed to do.
All in all, this has been a great experience and I will always remember it as part of my academic experience at Berkeley College. The best part is all the friends I made along the way, I found great people and I learned a lot from all of them. I'm sure I will be visiting often, so I'm not upset, but thankful.
Now it's time to take one more step and start with this new adventure. I am very enthusiastic about it and I'm happy they were so supportive about it at the ASC when I told them I had to leave.
If you're a Berkeley student, I really recommend you take advantage of the ASC, you'd be surprised how helpful it can be for your academic success, whether you're an A student or struggling. Thanks for reading and see you soon!
